Climate
Nairobi has a subtropical highland climate. The weather in October is a mixed bag in Kenya. the rains begins, Temperatures in Nairobi range from 68 to 80°F with nighttime drops down to about 58°F. In addition to sunscreen and bug spray, you’ll want to bring a waterproof rain jacket with you and long pants to stay warm in the evenings. average daytime highs of 80 to 88°F and evenings of about 74°F.
Sights and sounds
Nairobi has numerous recreational green areas. Nairobi National Park, located in the Southern side of the city, is an important attraction. Other parks and protected forests include Uhuru Park, Central Park, John Michuki Park, Nairobi Arboretum, City Park, Uhuru Gardens, Jeevanjee Gardens, Karura Forest, Ngong forest, and Ololua forest.
Kenya National Theatre, and the Kenya National Archives. Art galleries in Nairobi include the Rahimtulla Museum of Modern Art (Ramoma), the Mizizi Arts Centre, and the Nairobi National Museum. There is also the Karen Blixen Museum and the Nairobi National Museum. There is Kuona Art Center for visual artists in Nairobi.
Many film makers also practice their craft out of Nairobi. Film-making is still young in the country but the scene is changing and the Kenyan production scene is experiencing a big change thanks to the rise in popular steaming sites such as Netflix and Show Max. Nairobi has been the set of several other American and British films. The most recent of these was The Constant Gardener (2005), a large part of which was filmed in the city.
Food
Nairobi has a vibrant food culture. Besides being home to nyamachoma which is a local term used to refer to roasted meat, there are American fast food restaurants such as KFC, Subway, Domino’s Pizza, Pizza Hut, Hardee’s and Burger King, and the longer established South African chains, Galitos, Steers, PizzaMojo, and Spur Steak Ranches. Coffee houses, doubling up as restaurants and mostly frequented by the upper middle classes, such as Artcaffe Nairobi Java House and Dormans, have become increasingly popular in recent days. Traditional food joints such as the popular Ranalo foods, in the city centre, Kuche Kuche at the Nyayo National Stadium swimming pool and Amaica, which specialize in African delicacies, are also widespread.
Transport
Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is the largest airport in Kenya.It is a category one airport and the regions aviation hub. Domestic travelers made up around 40% of overall passengers. JKIA handles more than 10 million passengers annually. JKIA received a Category One Status from the FAA boosting the airport’s status as a Regional Aviation hub. Matatus are the most common form of public transport in Nairobi.
Online hailing taxis such as Uber and Bolt are popular for carrying visitors from the airport to their accommodation.
Currency
The Kenyan shilling is the official currency while visiting the country. Currently 1$ = 147 Kshs.
Most places within the City use multiple payment methods including Debit/Credit cards and cash.
